Anyone heard of Project Silk Leaf? Well, this is a project undertaken by Julian Melchiorri, a student at the Royal College of Art who designed a synthetic leaf that turns light and water into oxygen
“This material has an amazing property of stabilizing (the chloroplast) organelles,” Melchiorri says in the video below. “As an outcome I have the first photosynthetic material that is living and breathing as a leaf does.”
Many are guessing the leaf to be used in space travels. Others are assuming it to be used in big buildings to pump in extra oxygen. Whatever the usage might be but Melchiorri has definitely invented something we might need in the future if we keep on ruining our mother nature. What do you say?
