In recent past the world witnessed a lot of tension in between China and US on matters of cyber security. Taking a step ahead China is now planning to build its own operating system to avoid being dependent on imported OS like iOS, Windows and Android. China operating system should be launched by October this year.
The development was reported in Xinhua news agency. The OS would be first released for desktop and then for other devices. Ni Guangnan who heads an official OS development alliance established in March said in People’s Post and Telecommunications News:
“We hope to launch a Chinese-made desktop operating system by October supporting app stores,”
Ni mentioned that the domestic OS would replace desktop OS in a year or two and the mobile OS might take three to four years. China banned Windows for official usage in May this year, and also started an anti-trust violation investigation on Microsoft. Similarly, Google also came under the scanner for its android mobile OS.

Edward Snowden’s revelations about US planting surveillance tools on US manufactured hardware also became one of the reasons for suspicion between the two countries.
If this trend continues we might see many more countries joining the bandwagon of creating their own OS like the China operating system. However, this will not be an easy task to do.
